After pouring in months of dedication and strenuous training, the Warren track teams competed at the Area meet and the Regional meet in Whitehouse. The competitors hailing from Warren were Keri Banks, Cody Hammons, and William Pelt.
At Area competition, all of the athletes dedicated incredible performances for the program. Banks advanced in girls' high jump, after leaping 5 feet. She was declared the area champion. Pelt completed the 3200 meter run with a time of 11:02:25, placing him in second. He also competed in the 1600 meter run, in which he placed third after a time of 5:06. Hammons was declared the area champion in the 800 meter run, with a time of 2:02, and placed second in the 400 meter dash, after a run clocking in at 0:51:5. At the Regional competition, Hammons placed earned the title of regional champion in the 800 meter run, after running a time of 1:59:4, allowing him to advance to the State-level competition. He also placed second in the 400 meter run. Banks also competed in the high jump earning a personal best of 5'22'' and placing third. Pelt placed eighth in the 3200 meter run and thirteenth in the 1600 meter run. Hammons will compete at State competition in Austin on May 11 and 12.
In golf, senior Brenna Johnson advanced to state, after a long season of agile playing. At state, Johnson competed against 72 players in a tournament. Out of the many contestants from throughout Texas, Johnson placed eleventh. The Warren School district is very proud of Johnson and her incredible achievement. The Warren varsity baseball team is also performing well this season and has advanced further in play-offs. The team will play a series of play-off games in Nacogdoches against New Diana. The first game will commence on May 10 at 6:30 p.m. and the second game will be on May 11 at 1:00 p.m. (Photo:Cody Hammons, Keri Banks, and William Pelt with their medals.)
