Colmesneil track competes at regionals

by Chance Bailey

The Colmesneil Bulldogs track team traveled to Palestine on Friday and Saturday to compete in the regional track meet, with the preliminary round on Friday and the finals on Saturday. Colmesneil took a whopping number of 18 athletes to the meet, but none were able to advance to the state meet. Notable performances came from Ali Harvey, who just missed going to state in the shot put by placing third, Matt Bailey, who advanced to the finals in the 400-meter dash, and Nikki Noble, who could possibly go to the state meet as a wildcard. The Bulldogs have had a very successful track season, winning the district meet, and competing well at area and regionals.

The Lady Dogs softball team will play their first playoff game of the season on Thursday against the winner between Joaquin and Mt. Enterprise in Huntington. The Lady Dogs have already beaten Joaquin earlier in the season, and if that's who they end up playing, that should give them confidence going into the game. It is unknown whether or not Colmesneil will elect to play a one game series or a best-of-three series, which would require them to play on Friday also. However it works out, Colmesneil should be the favorite to beat either team and advance to the regional quarterfinals.

Colmesneil's baseball team will have to wait until next week to play in the area round of the playoff after winning their district. They are scheduling warm-up games for this week to make sure they don't have any rust going into the playoffs. Colmesneil is going to play Shelbyville or the runner-up of district 21-1A in their first game.
