Lady Dogs fighting for playoff spot

Haleigh Belt shoots a free throw

by Chance Bailey

The Colmesneil Lady Dogs basketball team went 1-1 last week after beating Hull-Daisetta and losing to Evadale to give them a 3-4 district record with just three games left in the season. If the Lady Dogs hope to have a chance at making the playoffs, they'll likely need to win out and finish with a 6-4 record. The Lady Dogs schedule doesn't get any easier, as they have to travel to Big Sandy and West Hardin, teams they've lost to prior in the season. Colmesneil will need their young stars in Treasure Jackson and Taylor Barker to have big games to propel them into the playoffs. The Lady Dogs next game will be on Friday night, as they travel to take on the second place Wildcats in Big Sandy.

The Colmesneil boys' basketball team traveled to Hull-Daisetta on Tuesday and hosted Evadale on Friday night last week. Both games resulted in losses for the Bulldogs, giving them an 0-5 record in district. After starting the season out 5-0, the Bulldogs have struggled over the past month. They'll need to win out and have some help just to have a shot at making the postseason. Colmesneil can give themselves a huge boost of confidence if they're able to go into Big Sandy on Friday night and upset the undefeated Wildcats.
