Woodville High School senior Cayla White signed a national letter of intent recently to play softball for Trinity Valley College in Athens. A three-time First Team All-District player, Cayla played third base for the Lady Eagles as a freshman, shortstop her sophomore year and was the team's pitcher last season.
At the Trinity Valley signing ceremony, Lady Cardinal head softball coach Ashley Johnston noted that she was excited about Cayla's decision to join the program and expected her to have an immediate impact when she arrives for the fall season. "Cayla has good power at the plate and smooth, quick skills at third, she's going to be a good asset for our team," said Johnston.
Trinity Valley athletics have a strong tradition with multiple national championships in women's basketball, men's basketball and football. The softball program was initiated in 2010 and under Johnston's guidance qualified for their regional tournament in their first two full seasons of competition – 2011 and 2012.
"I'm very excited about the opportunity," said Cayla, daughter of Dave and Kay Youngblood. "I think this is a good fit for me, everyone on campus has been great, Coach Johnston knows what it takes to get to the next level and I should have a good shot at getting on the field right from the start which is very important to me."
