Spurger Pirates of all ages enjoy sports day

Silly kids have fun at Field Day.

by Emily Waldrep

Now that the regular sports season has officially ended, the entire campus held a week of fun, layed back sporting events for all age groups.

The elementary competed for two days in the annual "field day" games. The kids got to enjoy two full days of playtime, where they competed with their friends in contest and events, like the 50 yard dash and softball throwing tournaments. Each year, Spurger rewards the elementary's hard work all year with a fun filled field day toward the end of the school year, and the 2012 event was definitely a hit. Grades kindergarten through sixth grade enjoyed various water activities, track events, dodgeball and baseball.

The high school aged students weren't left out, and they also got to enjoy a free day to celebrate the end of the year and all the hard work that has been done. Seventh grade through high school seniors all created teams and competed with the teachers in a dodgeball, volleyball and wiffleball tournament. At the end of the day, the junior class had claimed themselves as the reigning champions of the tournament, with the teachers coming in at a close second place.

It's always good to have fun, layed back weeks of school between strenuous testing and sports schedules. All of the students begin taking their STAR/EOC and TAKS test next week and were very happy for the pre-testing break.
