Spurger cross-country team qualifies for Regional meet

Spurger Cross Country attended their district meet on Oct. 16 in Lufkin. The Junior High girls’ team is made up of only two runners, but what a talented pair they are.

Karlee Hebert placed third with a time of 10:25, and only eight seconds behind first place. Avalon Gallo finished in fourth place with a time of 10:58. The Pirates will see more medals in the future with these talented ladies on board.

The Junior High boys’ team placed first in district after a strong showing at the meet. Luis Molina placed 3rd with a time of 9:49, and Coby Anthony was fourth with 9:50.

Douglas Craft and Joshua Grissom sprinted to the line in an extremely close finish. Craft was sixth with a 10:04 finish, and seventh to Grissom with a 10:04.05 time. Aiden Wagoner rounded out the scoring runners and finished 12th in 12:00, Landon Heim placed 14th, and Kade Ford finished 24th. Congratulations to the Junior High Boys District Championship team.

The High School boys captured the 2nd place team award. Colton Fredieu finished in 4th place with a time of 21:08, followed by Nick Wilson in 7th with 21:34, Trint Essary in eighth with a time of 21:43, Jose Jimenez in 9th with 22:14, Dylan O’Neal in 11th, and Hagen Shoemaker in 12th.

Congratulations to the Regional Qualifying team.

The High School girls not only won the team championship, but Sayri Urias is the 2019 District Champion. Urias finished in 1st place with a time of 15:15. Lea Urbano finished in 3rd place with 16:06, Katy Curry was 5th with a time of 16:29, Jillian Leasman was 7th with 17:57, and Emily Ellis finished in 8th place with a time of 19:38.

Congratulations to the Regional Qualifying team, and District Champions.

The Regional cross-country meet will take place Oct. 28 in Corpus Christi.

Lady Pirates  playoff bound

The Lady Pirates Volleyball team has ended their regular season and have clinched first place in District 1A.
At press time, the date or time had yet to determined for their playoff berth.
