Bulldogs soldier on against Acadiana

The Bulldog Football team took on Acadiana on Friday, Sept. 27. Sadly, the Bulldogs could not come out with a win and the final score of the game was 12-50.

Senior Wesley Dobbins had an interception during the game and returned it for 58 yards. Dobbins also had seven tackles during the game including two for loss of yards. Junior Kobe Shird had two sacks and three tackles for loss of yards.

Junior Evan Stewart plays left guard and defensive tackle and led the team in rushing yards with 38 yards. Stewart stated, “We have grown as a team since the beginning of two-a-days and continue to grow each week through practice and the weight room. Our attitudes as a whole have changed for the better. All of our preseason games have prepared us for the challenge of our first district game this week. I believe we have a solid team and the potential to go far this season if we maintain a solid work ethic, good character, and mental toughness.” Sophomore Jayden Ferguson ran the ball well throughout the game. Senior Kaleb Powers and Freshman Mason Teal did a consistently good job on coverage for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs saw more passing from the opposing team than they will in of the games coming up. The first district game for the Bulldogs will take place in Lovelady, Kickoff will begin at 7 p.m.

The Lady Dog volleyball team took on Groveton on Tuesday, Sept. 24 and came out victorious. The first game of the set, the Lady Dogs won 25-20, the second resulted in 25-23, and the third was a tight race and the score was 28-26. Senior Lacy Reynolds helped the team to victory by having an accurate serve in crucial moments of the game. The next game for the Lady Dogs took place on Wednesday, Sept. 25 against Goodrich. The final score of the first game was 25-11, the second was 25-2, and the third ended with 25-8.

The Lady Dogs began the second round of district on Friday, Sept. 27 against Kennard. Sophomore Kaitlyn Byrum impacted the score by serving for the Lady Dogs and earning points. The Lady Dogs are 6-0 in district and will play their next game on Tuesday, Oct. 1 against Chester in the R.B. Moffett Gymnasium, Varsity will begin at 4:30 p.m. The Lady Dogs will travel to Apple Springs on Friday, Oct. 4. Varsity will start at 4 p.m. The volleyball team is undefeated in district and has the potential to do great things this season.
