Lady Eagles crush Newton

Morgan Poncho tallied seven strikeouts and walked three batters completing the no-hitter against Newton. Thirteen runs in the first three innings helped the Eagles blow out Newton. A solo homerun by Ashton Weatherford, an RBI double by Tamara White, and a RBI single by Faith Sermons in the first inning fueled the Eagles' offense early. The Eagles led 4-0 after the first inning.

Avery Tolar opened the top of the second inning with a bunt single and stole second base. White battled back from a 0-2 count to walk. Tolar advanced to third base on a wild pitch. Kenzie McGallion grounded out on a hard hit ball to third base scoring Tolar and allowing McGallion to advance to third base. Mallory Watts hit a line drive single to left field scoring McGallion to increase the lead to 6-0.

Woodville broke the game open in third inning scoring seven runs to put the game out of reach. Woodville eventually won the game 16-0.

Weatherford had a busy day at the plate, collecting three extra-base hits. Watts led the Lady Eagles with four hits. Tolar, White, and Weatherford combined for 11 hits and six RBI's. The Lady Eagles scored 16 runs on 16 hits with one error. Newton scored zero runs on zero hits committing four errors.

The 4-0 Lady Eagles will travel to Deweyville Friday and host Kirbyville on Friday. The Lady Eagles, Lady Pirates and the Lady Cats are predicted to be the top three teams fighting for the 20-AA district championship.

The Woodville Eagle baseball team dropped to Bridge City 10-2 Wednesday in its lone contest of the week. Marqui Jackson and Charles Fentress led the Eagles offensively with two hits apiece. Jason Amburn led the Eagles on the mound with four strikeouts.

The varsity track teams will participate in Warren on Thursday. Woodville middle school opened its track meet Monday at Woodville. Both the Eagles and Lady Eagles ran hard earning numerous ribbons. The boys and girls will participate in the district meet Monday. The boys will run in Deweyville, while the girls will run in Kirbyville.
