Lady Jacket Basketball
The Lady Jackets faced the Spurger Lady Pirates Tuesday, February 4. The Lady Pirates came out strong in the first quarter. They were able to end the quarter with a five point lead, but the Lady Jackets did not let this alter their intentions of winning the game. They closed the half 20-15 in the Lady Jackets favor. The Lady Jackets came into the second half with a vengeance. There was no stopping their strong offense and defense. The Lady Jackets were in total domination of the game.

The Lady Jackets finished strong, 57-27 over the Spurger Lady Pirates. Top scorers for this game were Timber Wright with 16 points and Tyra Adair with 12 points. Other scorers were Maddie Read and Destiny Kuehn with eight points each, Laken Read with six points, Kyrstin Jobe with five points and Jaci Davis with three points.

The Lady Jackets faced Goodrich Lady Hornets Saturday, February 8 at Panther Gymnasium in Lufkin. This game would determine second and third place in district standing. Both teams were evenly matched athletically and this was not an easy game for either team. The Lady Jackets and Lady Hornets battled back and forth under the goal the entire game. The intensity of this ball game was extreme as there was only 30 second left on the clock and the Lady Jackets were up by two. Goodrich was able to make a drive to tie the score. The Lady Jackets took control of the ball and it looked as if they would score to win the game, but a Lady Jacket turnover and a foul put Goodrich into scoring position. Unfortunately the Lady Jackets fell to the Goodrich Hornets 56-52. Adair led the team with 19 points, Laken Read and Wright with nine points each, Jobe with five points, Davis and Kuehn with four points and Maddie Read with two points.

"Our girls played well. Tyra Adair played a fantastic game defensively and an outstanding first half on the offensive end. As a team, we were a little sloppy with our defensive footwork and we didn't maintain our positioning a few times on offense, but on the whole, we played well. This game will serve as a nice tune up for us heading into the playoffs," comments Coach Ryan Hall.

The Lady Jackets will open the first round of the playoffs against Kennard at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening at Shands Gymnasium on the campus of Angelina College.

The Yellowjacket offense and defense came alive in the fourth quarter. The Jacket offense scored 26 points and the defense held the Cardinals to only nine points. The Yellowjackets took the win, 58-42 over the Cardinals. Cord Neal was the lead scorer for the Jackets with 30 points. Colten Martin also had double digits with 11 points.
