The Woodville Eagles put on a strong showing Friday night, but it wasn't enough as the Anahuac Panthers outlasted the Eagles 28-27 in Anahuac. The Eagles scored first on a five yard scamper by quarterback Marqui Jackson. Charles Fentress added the extra point to take the early 7-0 lead in the first. The Eagles added to the lead in the second quarter when Jackson connected with Fentress for a 26 yard touchdown pass to go up 14. Anahuac scored in the second and third periods to tie the game at 14-14. Jackson capped off an 80 yard drive with a one yard touchdown to go up seven again. The Eagles increased their lead to 27-14, when Jackson found Phillip Noble for a 60 yard touchdown reception. The lead did not hold as Anahuac scored twice in the fourth to win 28-27.
Jackson completed 10 of 13 passes for 149 yards and two touchdowns. Jackson and Delante' Barclay each carried the ball 17 times for 78 and 76 yards respectively. Noble led the team with three receptions for 87 yards. Tyler Conner had three receptions, Reggie Williams caught two balls and Ashton Lockhart had one. Noble had an interception for the Eagles.
The JV returned to the winning column with a 52-20 win Thursday night. The eighth grade lost 24-20, while the seventh grade pitched a shutout in the 30-0 win. The Eagles will return home Friday night to face the Hardin Hornets. Kick off will be 7:30 p.m. for the Eagles. The junior high will be home Thursday and begin at 5:00 p.m. The JV will travel to Hardin.
The Lady Eagles split the week dropping their Thursday game to Kountze in four sets. Woodville bounced back Saturday defeating Newton in three sets. The Lady Eagles will host Deweyville on Saturday and travel to Kirbyville on Tuesday to end the district season.
