Lady Eagles defeat Corrigan in five

The Lady Eagles defeated Corrigan in five sets to start district off with a record of 2-0. Woodville breezed by the Lady Bulldogs 25 to 11 in the first set. Mallory Watts served three aces in the set. Corrigan fought back in the second set 27-25 to knot the game up at one set apiece. Shawnacy Williams led the Lady Eagles with five attacks and four aces. Woodville once again over powered the Lady Bulldogs winning game three 25-12. Makala Kibble and Katie Watts provided four digs each in the win. Once again Corrigan would not go down with a 25-22 win forcing a final set to 15. Woodville cruised to a 15-8 win for the district victory. Woodville connected on 94% of their serves and compiled 84 digs in the win. They served 19 aces and had 18 blocks. Williams led the Eagles with seven of the blocks.

Woodville seventh grade placed second in the Huntington tournament this weekend. Woodville defeated Huntington in the first round in two sets to advance to the semi-finals. The Lady Eagles had a rematch with Huntington in the finals to win first place. The Lady Eagles eighth grade finished second in their bracket.

The Woodville Eagle football team dropped its final pre-district game 35-20 to Corrigan-Camden. Marqui Jackson, Delonte' Barclay and Trent Daniels each scored a touchdown for the Eagles. The eighth grade outlasted the Bulldogs 56-46 in a shootout. Football will be open this week as they prepare for district.

The high school and middle school cross country teams will travel to Lake Tejas Saturday. This will be the first meet for the high school girls and middle school teams.
