Woodville plays summer ball

The Woodville Lady Eagles continued summer league with a split last Monday night. The Buna Lady Cougars defeated Woodville in the first game 33-30. The Lady Eagles bounced back in the second game with a 49-15 victory over the Spurger Lady Pirates. The Lady Eagles jumped out to an early 12-0 lead and never looked back. The Lady Eagles will continue summer league basketball Monday night in Woodville. While the ladies were in the gym, the boys were outside competing in 7 on 7 football. Woodville defeated the Colmesneil Bulldogs 45-21. Head Football Coach Jared Slaten was impressed with the defense the second half. Colmesneil scored a touchdown in its first two drives and scored a third right before halftime. The Eagles stepped up its defense and held the Bulldogs scoreless the second half. The Eagles had three interceptions in the game. Slaten noted the play of sophomore Chandler Button. "Button stepped at quarterback and threw well."

The Eagles and Lady Eagles will continue to open the weight room this summer. The weight room will open at 5:30 for the boys and 6:30 for the girls. The athletes will have the opportunity to participate in strength training as well as conditioning.
