WOODVILLE – The Tyler County Chamber of Commerce hosted a candidate forum last Tuesday, the third such event the organization has conducted during the current election season.
At this event, Kent Gore, who is in the run-off for the position of Pct. 1 Commissioner, was the only candidate present. Gore, who is challenging Joe Blacksher in the run-off, called the position he is seeking “an important job for the county as a whole,” and cited his experience in the past as a business owner as a positive attribute.
With social distancing guidelines in place, the forum was livestreamed on the Chamber of Commerce’s Facebook page. Chamber members Leann Monk, Connie Gibson and Jacob Spivey were present, with Spivey serving as moderator.
“Only one is here tonight, that should not in any way be perceived as an endorsement by the Chamber of Commerce in any way shape or form,” Spivey said. “We felt it was in the best services to our community to continue to offer these forums as we have throughout the election cycle,” he added.
In the name of fairness, the Booster reached out to Blacksher, who said he has already spoken at the previous two Chamber-hosted forums.
Blacksher said, “I work a full-time job and only have limited time to reach the residents of Precinct 1. My priority is getting to know the people and hearing their concerns. If anyone would like to meet with me, I’m a phone call away, 409-790-4149.”
