Deputies Byrum and Jackson of the Tyler County Sheriff's Department observed a white SUV on August 22 with an equipment violation and stopped the vehicle.
The driver, identified as Phillip Alton Britnell, exited the vehicle and met the officers near the rear of the SUV. Deputies had received prior information from informants linking Britnell to narcotics activity in the Ivanhoe area.
Deputies asked permission to search Britnell's vehicle, but he refused the search. Shortly after, Texas Department of Safety Trooper Ritchnow arrived on scene with his drug dog.
"At that time Britnell advised deputies that there was methamphetamines in the vehicle," said Phil Ryan of the Tyler County Sheriff's Department. "Deputies discovered a small amount of methamphetamines on his person, and the rest was found in the vehicle."
The amount and packaging of the methamphetamines led officers to believe that Britnell was selling and dealing the drug and he was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver.
