Two men arrested after horse deal goes off track

by Emily Waldrep

On July 27, at around 11 p.m., Woodville Police Officer DeShazo was dispatched to the 400th Block of Railroad St. in reference to a fight in progress. A man stating that he had been assaulted flagged officers down at the scene. The victim was identified as Tony N. Greene, age 57, of Houston. While officers were interviewing Greene, a second male subject could be heard yelling from down the street. Officers met with the second subject and identified him as Paul Price Sr. , age 51, of Hillister.

The officer determined that the fight occurred between Greene and Price. Greene began to explain to officers why the fight had occurred and said that a third person had owed him $100, and that they had agreed to settle the debt by exchanging a horse for payment. Greene stated that the horse was delivered to his property a few days earlier.

Later, Greene discovered that the third person had originally purchased the horse from Price in the amount of only $25, but had only paid Price $5 of the $25 agreed on. Price found out that the third person had sold the horse to Green and went to pick it up from Green to settle his $20 debt. Green stated that Price picked up the horse without his permission so Green called the Sheriff's Department. Price is alleged to have gotten upset at Green for calling the Sheriff's Department and confronted Green. An argument ensued and the fight began.

Both Green and Price were arrested and charged with Disorderly Conduct and Fighting in Public.

Both men were slightly injured but did not request medical treatment. This is a classic case of to much Horsing Around!
