Woodville man charged with possession, tampering

by Emily Waldrep

Woodville Police Captain Mike McCulley said Officers had a busy week with nearly a dozen arrests, including several drug arrests.

"At least half of the arrests were initiated by the Officers and the remained were due to Officers responding to calls of service," McCulley said.

On May 31, Officer Dees was patrolling and observed a male subject walking on the 500 block of Black Gum Street. Officers had past knowledge of the subject being involved in narcotics and had received numerous reports of drug activity in that general area.

Dees made contact with the subject, identified as Tony Lavett Gray, age 59, of Woodville. While speaking with Gray, Dees noticed that he was acting suspicious so she attempted to pat him down for weapons.

"At that time, Gray began to avoid the Officer by reaching his hands behind his body," McCulley said. "Officer Dees then observed Gray put something in his mouth."

After Dees commanded Gray to take the object out of his mouth, she realized that it was a baggie of crack cocaine. Additional cocaine was discovered in Grays pockets.

Gray was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group One and Tampering/Fabricating Physical Evidence, which is a third degree felony. Gray's bond was set at $25,000.
