June, July Woodville ISD Board meetings

The regularly scheduled monthly meeting for the Woodville I.S.D. Board of Trustees was held Monday, July 15, 2013 at 7 p.m. in the Woodville I.S.D.'s Community Room. The agenda included approving an upcoming election date for two Trustees, reviewing the student handbook, bids, and dates for several upcoming meetings including a public hearing for the District's proposed budget and tax rate.

The Board approved August 27, 2013 as the date for a public hearing to discuss the District's proposed budget and tax rate for the upcoming 2013-2014 school year. The hearing was scheduled to be held at 6 p.m. in the Woodville I.S.D. Community Room. The public was encouraged to attend. The Board also set August 6, 2013 as the date for a workshop to be held to develop goals for the District and Team Eight training. The workshop started at 7 p.m., and the location was pending.

The dates of August 13-15, 2013 were scheduled for the County's five school districts to attend Tyler County Professional Development workshops. Woodville I.S.D. teachers and support staff were slated to report back on campuses, to officially begin their school year, August 19, 2013. Students wete scheduled to start classes August 26, 2013.

The student handbook was reviewed and approved by the Board. Students and parents will notice only a couple of changes when reviewing this year's handbook.

The Woodville I.S.D. Board of Trustees elections will run concurrently with the general public elections on November 5, 2013. There will be two positions to be decided. Filing dates for aspiring candidates were July 27, 2013 through August 26, 2013. The Administration Office took on the tasks of providing information and registering candidates.

The Board opened bids for the proposed selling of three school buses. The winning bids, for all three buses, were awarded to Max Lade. The Board decided to open bids for a food service contract July 23, 2013 at noon.

The 2012-2013 school year, for Woodville I.S.D., closed out with an enrollment of 1299 compared to 2011-2012's total of 1296. The current year's attendance record closed at 96.06 percent compared to last year's 95.78 percent.

In other end-of-the-year statistics, High School students taking the required End-of-Course exams out-preformed the state's average percentile in 11 of the 13 subjects tested in our district. Awesome students!

During an earlier meeting, held in June, the board approved the hiring of one additional fulltime faculty member to be utilized at the Middle School. The board also agreed to allow the superintendent to create a new position that will be termed as an "At-Will" hire. The job description and qualifications for this position are still being worked on. The budget for the Tyler County Appraisal District was approved as was the Woodville I.S.D. Appraisal Calendar for 2013-2014.
