Tyler County Emergency Management looking for Rainfall Observers

by George Lucas, Tyler County Asst. EMC

Tyler County Emergency Management is seeking "dedicated" volunteer Rainfall Observers. These volunteer observers will be located within Tyler County only.

The purpose for this project, is to provide Emergency Management as well as the National Weather Service with additional rainfall observations in order to better serve the County. The National Weather Service Forecast Office at Lake Charles, La. and the West Gulf River Forecast Center will also use this data to make better river forecasts and flood warnings for Tyler County.

These rain gages will be located in strategic areas of the county where no data is currently available. Also, any resident or business in Tyler County that has "wind" measuring equipment are asked to share wind data with Emergency Management as well as the National Weather Service. This will help to make decisions for wind forecasts and warnings.

If you wish to be a "rainfall observer" or a provider of wind data, please call Tyler County Emergency Management at: 409-331-0874 so Mr. Lucas can discuss these requests with you.
