Baseball and softball season are kicking off in Colmesneil, as the Bulldogs and Lady Dogs are both trying to improve on last season's district championships and a first round loss in the playoffs. The baseball team has gotten off to a good start, playing in several scrimmages and hosting a Colmesneil alumni game this past Saturday. As of now, they're the clear favorites to repeat as district champions. The Bulldogs have an experienced group of players, many who started and contributed to the team's success last season, with the exception of freshman second baseman, Caleb Lindsey. The Bulldogs will enter their first tournament of the year this weekend, as they will travel to Kountze on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

The Lady Dogs softball team is returning seven of their nine starters this season, with the exception of pitcher and Kilgore signee, Ali Harvey, who should likely return to the team in March coming off of knee surgery. The Lady Dogs got off to a hot start this season, going 5-1 and winning the Hudson Tournament this past weekend. In the opening game, they lost to Diboll, but bounced back to win five straight against Tatum, Cleveland, Trinity, Kirbyville, and Teague. The Lady Dogs will try and win their second straight tournament this weekend, as they will play in the Nacogdoches Central Heights tournament on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
