Varsity Girls Basketball- The Colmesneil Varsity Girls basketball team took on the Broaddus Lady Bulldogs on Tuesday, Jan. 22, and sadly were not able to pull out a win. The score going into half time was 9-34 and the Lady Dogs were down. Throughout the game, the Lady Dogs could not seem to make a shot and could not catch up after half time. The final score of the game was 22-69. On January 25 the Lady Dogs took on the Big Sand Lady Wildcats and were shorthanded without their Senior starter Jackie Hughes. Throughout the whole game, the Lady Dogs had amazing defense, but still came up short and lost the game. The Lady Dogs will take on the West Sabine Tigers on Tuesday, Jan. 29 at the R.B. Moffett Gymnasium and will play after the JV Boys. The JV Boys will begin at 4:30 p.m. On Friday, Feb. 1 the Lady Dogs will travel to Brookeland and will play at 6 p.m. Currently the Lady Dogs are tied for fourth with Zavalla and want to win the rest of their district games.
Varsity Boys Basketball- The Varsity Bulldog basketball team finished their first round of district and hope
to turn the season around in the second round. On Tuesday, Jan. 22, the Bulldogs took on the Broaddus Bulldogs and lost 40-71. Senior Zane Hermsen scored 22 points during the game and helped the team tremendously. On Friday, January 25, the Bulldogs faced off with the Big Sandy Wildcats and the final score was 39-78, the Bulldogs lost. Hermsen has had four consecutive 20+ point games. He has been an amazing asset to the Colmesneil varsity Basketball team and his effort shows itself on the scoreboard. The Bulldogs will play on Jan. 29 at the R.B. Moffett Gymnasium following the 4:30 JV Boys game, and the Varsity Lady Dogs. On Friday, Feb. 1 the Bulldogs will travel to Brookeland and play right after the Varsity Girls. The Varsity Girls will begin at 6 p.m.
Junior High Basketball- The Junior High basketball teams played their last game of the season on Jan. 28 against High Island at the R.B. Moffett Gymnasium. The B team boys played the first game of the night and sadly lost 8-12. 7th grader J.W. Mitcham scored 6 of the 8 points. The A team boys played an outstanding game and won 29-19. Reed Best had the highest individual point total and scored 12 points. The final game of the night was the combined 7th and 8th grade girls, and the Junior High Lady Dogs won 39-17. All of the teams have improved throughout the season and show potential for the future.
Softball- The Colmesneil Lady Dog Softball team has begun practice and will play their first scrimmage on Tuesday, Jan. 29 against Onalaska beginning at 4:30 p.m. The game will be played at the Alicyn D. Mitcham Field in Colmesneil.
The Lady Dogs have a bright future ahead for the season to come.
