Cheryl, also a graduate from the LVN school in Jasper, is a graduate from the Lamar University and a graduate of Spurger High School, class of 1992. We are so proud of you!

Jacob Spivey, Melanie Watkins to wed June 12

Kyle and Candace Spivey of Warren, Texas,, and Joseph and Jennifer Watkins of Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey, are pleased to announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their children, Jacob Read Spivey and Melanie Renee Watkins. Jacob is the grandson of Cherie and the late Ben Read and Moe and the late Alice Spivey of Warren.

Melanie is the granddaughter of Bob and Wanda Watkins of Tennessee and Reverend Bill and Diane Hegedus of North Carolina.

Jacob is a graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University and is employed as an agriculture science teacher at Timpson ISD. Melanie is a senior at Lancaster Bible College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Jacob and Melanie met while participating in the Disney College Program at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida.

They will be married at Disney World on June 12, 2014.

Bradley - Gallion to Wed


To be wed­—Mr. Douglas Bradley, formerly of Houston and Palestine, and Donna Gallion of Laporte, announce their wedding, set for May 23, 2014. Pastor Steven McBride will perform the ceremony at Emmanuel Baptist Church at 7 p.m. Donna retired after 20 years from the Port of Houston, and now is a stay at home mom of their two loving children. Brad is on disability after working 25 years as a patrol security officer, 12 years as a correctional officer and as a truck driver for USA trucks. The couple will have a short honeymoon in Texas and will live in the city of Ivanhoe.

Barnes to attend Texas State University on Terry Scholarship

Julia BarnesJulia Barnes, a senior at Colmesneil High School, has enrolled at Texas State University with a Terry Scholarship award for $19,000 per year for four years. She will be pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing with an emphasis in pediatrics and nutrition.

Terry Scholars are selected based on three criteria: academic excellence, leadership potential and financial need. For Fall 2014, the Foundation interviewed 652 and selected 322 Terry Scholars. This will be the largest freshman class of Terry Scholars to date. The Terry Foundation Scholarship works with a reasonable family contribution and other scholarships/grants to cover the full cost of attendance for up to 8 semesters.

The Terry Foundation is a Houston-based scholarship program founded to provide scholarships to outstanding Texas high school graduates and transfer scholars for attendance at public colleges and universities within the state. Established in 1986 by Houston philanthropists Howard and Nancy Terry, the Foundation has assisted thousands of Terry Scholars in meeting the Founders' goal of helping Texas college students to help themselves.

Shook graduates from Naval Station Great Lakes—FA Randall Dakota Blayne Shook graduated from Naval Station Great Lakes on December 13, 2013. He remains in Great Lakes for "A" school. Upon completion of "A" school, he will be a GSM for the United States Navy. He expects to be stationed in Hawaii or Spain. Proud parents of FA Shook are Mitch and Sharon Dardeau of Woodville, and Bobby Shook of Silsbee. Grandparents are Korean Conflict Navy veteran Billy Jeffcoat and the late Claudia Jeffcoat of Spurger, and Bertie Butaud, also of Spurger.

Poindexter-Kalkbrenner to wed

To Be Wed—Ron and Karen Poindexter of Hillister, Texas, are pleased to announce the engagement of their son, Christopher Poindexter, to Claire Louise Kalkbrenner, daughter of Tanya and Chuck Kalkbrenner of Beaumont, Texas.

Chris graduated from Woodville High School in 2006 and attended A&M University, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture Economics in 2010. Chris continued his education at Lamar University, where he received a Master of Business Administration. He is now a Partner at East Texas Truss, LLC.

Claire graduated from West Brook High School in 2009. She will graduate from Texas A&M University in May 2014 with a degree in Biomedical Engineering. Claire will be employed at Quorum Business Solutions, an oil and gas software consulting company as an engineering consultant in Houston.

Chris and Claire will wed June 20, 2014. After a honeymoon to St. Thomas, they will live in Kingwood, Texas.
