Celebrates 100 years—Annie Mae Spurlock, a resident of Dogwood Trails Manor, celebrated her 100th birthday March 15. She was born in 1914 and was married to her now-deceased husband, J.D. Spurlock, for 72 years. They had a garden and sold vegetables at their home. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, quilting and made doilies until she could no longer see her work; she is also a wonderful cook, who canned her own vegetables and fruit. She loved to fish and hunt, and she killed an 8-point buck when she was 95. Annie has three children, Jimmy, Jeannie and Jerry; seven grandchildren, including Janet, Brenda, Jill, Ashley, Cassidy, Suzanne and Steven; nine great-grandchildren, including Brandi, August, Alyson, Sydney, Sara, Isabella, Gabriel, Caleb and Hayden.

KayCee Davis named Texas’ 34th Annual Homecoming Queen Finalist

Miss KayCee Davis, granddaughter of Kathy Davis Trevino, and sister of Kodee Davis, of Woodville, has been selected a finalist for Texas' 34th Annual Homecoming Queen Selection to be held April 6, 2014, at the Dallas-Fort Worth Marriott in Irving, Texas. She is the Warren High School Homecoming Queen. Texas' 2014 Homecoming Queen will receive a cash scholarship plus an all-expense-paid trip to the National Finals to compete with the queens from other states for America's Homecoming Queen. America's Homecoming Queen, Inc., is a non-profit organization promoting education, educational travel and community service in all fifty states. Wilson graduates Basic Training

Wilson completes Basic Training

Air Force Airman Matthew C. Wilson graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Wilson is the grandson of Henrietta Reeves of Hillister.

He is a 2009 graduate of Spurger High School.

The marriage will take place in Hillister, Texas, on March 15, 2014, at 4 p.m. After the honeymoon the couple will live in Silsbee, Texas.

Boykin - Butler annouce engagement


To be wed­—Frank and Angela Boykin of College Station are happy to announce the engagement of their daughter, Chelsi, to Cody Butler, son of Chuck and Kim Butler of Woodville. Chelsi graduated from Texas A&M University in 2012 with a degree in Biomedical Sciences. She will graduate in May from University of North Texas Health Science center in Forth Worth with a Master of Science degree in Medical Sciences. Cody graduated from Sam Houston State University in 2013 with a degree in Kinesiology, and is employed at Gold's Gym as a certified personal trainer. The wedding will be held at 7F Lodge in College Station, Texas, on June 7, 2014. The couple will live in Aggieland.

Lisa is an MBA graduate of Texas A&M University, and is employed with Forest Pharmaceuticals. The groom is a graduate of University of Texas-Tyler, and is currently employed with Forest Pharmaceuticals. The couple will marry May 3, 2014, 6 p.m. at The Cascades Country Club in Tyler, Texas. After a honeymoon to the Riviera Maya, Mexico, the couple will live in Texarkana, Ark.
