WOODVILLE – A two-vehicle crash which occurred south of Woodville on Labor Day resulted in four fatalities.
At approximately 1:45 p.m. on Monday, the Texas Department of Public Safety responded to a report of a crash involving multiple vehicles on US 69 two miles south of Woodville near Childress Monument Works. DPS reports indicate that a Ford F250 pickup truck was traveling southbound and a Dodge pickup towing an RV was headed northbound along the stretch of road. The driver of the Ford crossed the center dividing line and struck the other vehicle.
The driver of the Ford, 18-year-old Travis Layne Jordan of Devers, along with passengers Harvey Lamar DuBose, 75, of Hull and his wife Ann Jones DuBose, were all pronounced dead at the scene by Justices of the Peace Jim Moore and Trisher Ford. The DuBoses were the grandparents of Jordan.
The driver of the Dodge, identified by DPS as Robert Alan Beard, 48, of Tyler, was also pronounced dead. A passenger, Leslie McCaa, 41, of Tyler, was transported to CHRISTUS - St. Elizabeth hospital in Beaumont with serious injuries.
Troopers are actively investigating this crash and working to determine the exact factors that contributed to it.
“Our prayers and deepest sympathy go out to each family that has been affected by this tragic event,” read a statement from DPS issued Monday night.
