On Sunday, November 25 at approximately 7 p.m., Sargent Hicks with the Woodville Police Department was dispatched to a reckless driver complaint on HWY 190 East. Callers stated that the vehicle was travelling west into Woodville and was all over the road. According to Captain Mike McCulley with the Woodville Police Department, Hicks located the vehicle at the intersection of West Bluff and Magnolia and conducted a traffic stop.
The driver was identified as Shane George Nero, age 29, of Humble. While Hicks was interviewing Nero, he found what he knew to be a straw used for narcotics use next to Nero's left leg.
"Nero was detained and a search of the area around the driver recovered a bag of white powder in the driver's side door pocket that tested positive for cocaine," McCulley said. "Hicks also located a small bag of marijuana in the center console. Officers also recovered 2 or 3 small straws that had cocaine residue in them in Nero's wallet."
Officers continued the search and found a large container in the backseat that contained a large snake. This created a challenge for the officers because the snake was not contained, as the container didn't have a top. Officers had to relocate the snake until after the search of the vehicle was completed and house the snake for several days at the Police Station.
Nero was charged with Possession of Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1 and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. There was also a passenger in the vehicle that was released without charges.
