Tyler County Sheriff's Deputy Laurent was patrolling in Ivanhoe on May 6 when he heard a vehicle squealing its tires and spinning out in the entrance of Ivanhoe. He went to the area, but the vehicle had taken a side road and could not be located. Laurent stopped and turned off his patrol unit and listened to see if he could hear the vehicle driving recklessly in the area.
Officer Stephany Byrum arrived to assist Laurent, and both patrol units parked on Lancelot Drive while waiting to locate the vehicle. Shortly after, they observed that a black GMC pickup turned onto Lancelot drive and started to move over to the right side of the road where deputies Byrum and Laurent were parked. The vehicle swerved at the deputies and then drove into the ditch and passed the patrol cars.
Deputies then turned around and began pursuing the vehicle. Deputy Wade arrived to assist in the chase, and after a short pursuit at a high rate of speed through the streets of Ivanhoe the black GMC was located at Queens Circle. Deputies Laurent and Wade arrived and spoke to the driver of the vehicle, Justin Tyler Reynolds, age 20.
Reynolds stated that he knew he was being pulled over, and he ran because he had several tickets he had not taken care of and had an expired sticker on his vehicle.
Reynolds admitted that he was traveling at a high rate of speed through the streets of Ivanhoe and was taken into custody for Evading Arrest with a Vehicle, which is a state jail felony.
